Sugar Land Holiday Lights

Constellation Field has nearly 2.5 million lights on display in eight themed sections throughout the weekend. Friday is First Responders Night, when local rescue and public safety workers will be on hand to meet visitors and show off work vehicles.

Smart Financial Centre Open house

The city of Sugar Land in partnership with Smart Financial Centre hosts a preview of the venue one week before the official grand opening Jan. 14. The event will feature self-guided tours, children’s activities, and performances by School of Rock Sugar Land and Fort Bend ISD schools.

The Sugar Land Skeeters, the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land and Inspiration Stage will be represented at the open house. Ruben Davis Drive ribbon cutting

The city of Missouri City will host a ribbon cutting for the recently renamed Ruben Davis Drive, formerly Orchard Street. Davis was the Fort Bend County Precinct 2 constable who died in October.

Children’s karate demonstration

Safety America! hosts a free karate demonstration at the Sugar Land branch of Fort Bend County libraries. The event is for first- through fifth-graders and will conclude with instructors teaching children some basics of karate.

2017 Women’s Quarter Marathon 
The women’s-only quarter marathon road race is 6.55 miles and aims to empower women and young girls. Registrants receive a medal and T-shirt. 7-10:30 a.m.

Bike the Bend for Literacy

The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County hosts its annual fundraiser starting at 8 a.m. Beginning and ending at Foster High School, 4400 FM 723, Richmond, the event includes 20-mile, 35-mile and 62-mile bike rides around the county.
