Several major projects at Klein ISD facilities—including the revamp of a 51-year-old elementary school and a high school auditorium remodel—will begin soon, a district spokesperson confirmed via email Nov. 20.

The gist

The following projects will be funded by KISD’s $900 million bond, which was approved by voters in May 2022:

1. Klein Collins auditorium remodel and traffic safety projects

Summary: Klein Collins High School’s auditorium will be updated with a new black box theater, fly loft and flooring. Expanded student car-rider areas and food service area improvements will also be added to the school.


Update: Project approved by KISD’s board of trustees meeting Nov. 10.
  • Construction timeline: TBA-2028
  • Cost: $29 million
2. Epps Island Elementary School renovations

Summary: Built in 1974, Epps Island is one of the district’s schools that is over 50 years old, so the school will be refreshed. Work will include updating the school’s mechanical infrastructure, security systems, academic spaces, cafeterias, fine arts areas, restrooms, parking lots and roadways.

Update: Pogue Construction will be working on the project after trustees approved the company’s selection Nov. 10.

  • Cost: $19 million
3. Districtwide safety and security upgrades

Summary: Safety and security systems will be updated across the district to help campuses and facilities remain safe and properly functioning.


Update: On Nov. 10, KISD’s board voted to award the construction contract to M-Scott.
  • Construction timeline: December-May 2026
  • Cost: $2 million
4. Klein Multipurpose Center traffic light project

Summary: A new traffic light will be installed at the intersection of FM 2920 and the driveway for the Klein Multipurpose Center, as previously reported by Community Impact. The light will offer drivers protected turns and is expected to make driving near the center safer. The district and the Texas Department of Transportation will collaborate on this project.

Update: Traf Tex was awarded the contract for the project Nov. 10.

  • Cost: About $500,000

KISD’s May 2022 bond consisted of two approved propositions, as previously reported by Community Impact.


Proposition A allocated $843.84 million to improve safety and security; address growth and capacity challenges; modernize aging schools; renovate all schools; and upgrade academic, arts and physical education/athletic spaces.

Also approved by voters in May 2022, Proposition B allocated $51.5 million toward classroom technology for students and staff.
