Spring-based business Shredding on the Go and its owner, James Parker, received the annual Employer of the Year Award from the Arc of Texas, the nonprofit organization announced in October.

The Arc of Texas advocates for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In addition, it recognizes companies that provide meaningful employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities, according to a news release.

Shredding on the Go, a document-shredding company started by Parker in 2010, hires individuals with disabilities or blindness. It currently employs 15 team members, according to the Arc news release.

“Shredding on the Go aligns with our vision [of] wanting a world where Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities are included in their communities and quality supports and services are available to meet their needs and choices,” said Dori Yeater, director of development for The Arc of Texas. “We believe their leadership, management and employees are passionate about helping their co-workers with [intellectual and developmental disabilities] and help incorporate them into their community.”

The Arc of Texas plans to present the award at a Nov. 2 event in Austin, according to a news release.
