Friendswood City Council approved an interlocal agreement with Harris County Precinct 2 to match funding for improvements to Blackhawk Boulevard during its Sept. 12 City Council meeting.
The project is a continuation of past renovations that ended south of Pennystone Way and continues north to Geneva Drive, according to Director of Engineering Jil Arias. Friendswood will cover $1.2 million of the $2.4 million project cost, with Precinct 2 contributing $1.2 million as part of a partnership program the city applied to earlier this summer.
Friendswood’s share of the cost will be funded by residual bond funds from the previous Blackhawk Boulevard project and will be supplemented by the 3/8th cent Street Improvement Sales Tax, according to agenda documents.
Friendswood will prepare plans, specifications and estimates for construction of the project and assume responsibility for maintenance once it is completed.
