Here are four road projects to know in Pearland and Friendswood.

Road work is continuing in Pearland and Friendswood, with construction moving forward on Hwy. 288 and Bailey Road. Work is being wrapped up on the Hwy. 35 beautification in September, according to city officials. Meanwhile, construction on Friendswood Lakes Boulevard is set to start next year.

Ongoing Projects


1. Brazoria County Expressway construction
Brazoria County will finish its work on the Brazoria County Expressway in September; however, the toll road will not be open to the public until the Texas Department of Transportation completes the adjoining Harris County portion of the tollway. TxDOT is scheduled to finish its portion in early 2020. Southbound lanes could open on both portions in late October or early November of this year. The Brazoria County Expressway is a four-lane toll road that runs from Croix Road to the county line; the Harris County portion runs from the county line into the Texas Medical Center.
Timeline: August 2017-September 2019
Cost: $80 million

2. Bailey Road reconstruction
Brazoria County is about to start construction on Bailey Road from Masters Road to CR 90, taking the road from a two-lane asphalt road to a four-lane concrete road with curb and gutter. Construction is set to start in September.
Timeline: September 2019-late 2021
Cost: $15 million
Funding sources: Transportation Improvement Program, Brazoria County

3. Hwy. 35 beautification and corridor enhancements
The Hwy. 35 beautification and corridor enhancements are set to be completed in September. The project includes adding benches, ramps and brick pavers at the pedestrian areas, plantings and Pearland monuments.
Timeline: August 2018-September 2019
Cost: $6 million
Funding source: Pearland Economic Development Corp.

4. Friendswood Lakes Boulevard construction
The city and Galveston County are 60% finished with the design phase converting the portion of Friendswood Lakes Boulevard from two to four lanes just before West Boulevard in League City.
Timeline: early 2020-TBD
Cost: $5.5 million
Funding sources: city of Friendswood, developers, Galveston County
