More than 138,000 people voted early in Brazoria County, falling just short of early voter turnout in 2020 but eclipsing the early voting totals in 2016 by more than 36%, county data shows.

By the numbers

The first week of early voting for the 2024 election saw a higher turnout than week two, according to county data.

Each of the first five days saw at least 12,000 people vote each day. This compares to the last five days, which only eclipsed 12,000 once, and saw less than 10,000 people vote in all but two days across the last seven days, data shows.

While the total fell under the 2020 early vote totals, 2020 included an extended early voting period that ran for 18 total days. This means each early voting day for 2024 averaged more voters per day than 2020.

For mail-in ballots, just under 4,000 voters had sent in mail-in ballots by Nov. 1, according to county data. This total is lower than both 2016, which saw 5,300 votes, and well under the 2020 election, which saw more than 11,000 mail-in ballots cast.
