The purchases were discussed at AISD’s safety committee meeting March 6.
The overview
AED units are portable, life-saving devices for heart attacks, according to the American Red Cross.
The 11 new units will replace the units from 2008-2012, which are outside its recommended date of use, Davon Ruiz, AISD’s director of safety and security, said at the meeting.
The cost of the units was not relayed as of press time.
What else?
The district will also be purchasing more “Stop the Bleed” kits, which are kits that provide supplies to tend to wounds, control bleeding and prevent infection. The kits include gauze, bandages, tourniquets and gloves, as well as instructions for how to properly use the supplies and apply them to the wound, according to AED Brands.
Currently, the district has enough kits that meet state requirements, which is one on each floor of each campus, but auditors recommended AISD get more kits during its district vulnerability audit in the fall, Ruiz said at the meeting.
The district will order enough to have a kit mounted on the wall on every second floor of a campus, Ruiz said at the meeting.
The cost of the units was not relayed as of press time.
