Alvin ISD officials will provide an update at its Jan. 14 meeting on Walt Disney Elementary, which was damaged by an EF-2 tornado on Dec. 28.

The overview

Students who attend Walt Disney Elementary were moved to the old Alvin Elementary campus when school resumed on Jan. 7, according to a social media post from the school.

There is no timeline as to how long the students will be at this location, which is at 1910 Rosharon Road, Alvin, AISD Assistant Director of Communications Rachel Moore said in an Jan. 7 email.

To recover the building’s infrastructure, insurance adjusters are currently assessing the damage. Moore said there is no timeline as to when the assessment will be complete.


What else?

Multiple supply drives have also taken place by the AISD Education Foundation and Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole. Both drives provided a large amount of supplies for students and teachers, according to social media posts from the AISD Education Foundation.

The board of trustees will also consider the 2025-26 academic calendar.


The calendar, which was created by the District Education Improvement Committee, includes the following features:

  • 77,000 instructional minutes
