The 2024 report for college, career and military readiness was reviewed by officials at Friendswood ISD’s board of trustees’ Dec. 9 meeting.

The overview

The state of Texas gives every school district criteria to earn CCMR accountability points, which can be earned through Advanced Placement exams; Texas Success Initiative criteria, dual credit, industry-based certifications, workforce readiness and military readiness, Kim Cole, FISD’s assistant superintendent of secondary teaching and learning said at the meeting.

FISD has the following readiness pathways:
  • Dual credit
  • AP exams
  • OnRamps dual enrollment, which is an opportunity from the University of Texas at Austin for students to earn college credit while in high school. Students are concurrently enrolled in a high school and college course when enrolled, but they can decide whether to decline or accept the college credit at the end of the course, according to the Texas Education Agency.
  • Associates degree
  • College prep math class
  • College prep English, language arts class
AP exams are scored from one to five, and many U.S. colleges grant credit if a student scores a three or above. In recent AP exams, over 75% of FISD students scored a three or higher for every school year since 2020.
For dual credit, 202 seniors, or 45% of the class, graduated with dual credit in the 2023-24 school year, FISD documents show.

Every student in CTE courses is also given an indicator code, which shows how many courses the student has taken in either junior or high school, officials said.

The number of courses is measured through the following categories, in which the number of courses taken must be within a certain program of study:
  • Explorer/participant: one course taken
  • Concentrator: three courses taken
  • Completer: four courses taken
Nearly 50% of FISD students earned the “concentrator” status during the 2023-24 school year.

For the American College Test, FISD students have earned composite scores that surpassed state averages since at least the 2019-20 school year, FISD data shows.
In regard to the military, over 60 students took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery during the 2023-24 school year, according to FISD documents.

Four students were enlisted in the military, and two students went to a military academy, FISD documents note.
