Students at Cline Elementary School will receive new personal student devices for the 2024-25 school year after the Friendswood ISD board of trustees approved the purchase of new laptops, worth $129,250, at its May 28 workshop.

What’s happening?

FISD approved the $129,250 quote with technology services provider GovConnection Inc. This includes 410 Chromebooks, according to the provider’s sales quote.

The original device replacement plan was set to be implemented for the 2023-24 school year, but it was postponed to “provide budgetary support to the district,” according to district agenda documents.

In total, the district has spent just under $253,000 on new devices, as 400 other student devices were already purchased earlier this year for Cline Elementary, according to district documents.

The purchase will be made through the district’s instructional materials allotment funds, according to district documents.

What’s next?

New student devices for sixth and seventh grade students at Friendswood Junior High School were expected for the 2024-25 school year, but that will be delayed until the 2025-26 school year for unspecified reasons, according to district documents.
