Alvin ISD will pay $170,000 to replace the playground at Hood-Case Elementary School after trustees approved the purchase at their May 14 meeting.

The overview

The current playground at Hood-Case Elementary has “reached its end of life cycle,” Matt DeVeau, executive director of support services at AISD, said in an April 8 memo. The playground has rusted components and the fall zone is in need of repairs to major components.

DeVeau also said the new playground will improve safety and offer lower maintenance costs for the district.

The purchase would be made through the district’s maintenance and operations, or M&O, funds, according to district documents.

The purchase is with McKenna Construction, who will also offer a 15-year manufacturer warranty, according to district documents.
