Alvin ISD’s board of trustees will consider purchasing a replacement worth over $170,000 for the playground at Hood-Case Elementary at its May 14 meeting.

The gist

The current playground at Hood-Case Elementary has “reached its end of life cycle,” Matt DeVeau, executive director of support services at AISD, said in an April 8 memo. The playground has rusted components and the fall zone is in need of repairs to major components.

DeVeau also said the new playground will improve safety and offer lower maintenance costs for the district.

District officials are recommending the board approve the replacement purchase with McKenna Construction, who will also offer a 15-year manufacturer warranty, according to district documents.

If approved, the purchase would be made through the district’s maintenance and operations, or M&O, funds, according to district documents.
