Friendswood ISD officials will host the district's first “Focus Team” meeting on Sept. 26. More than two dozen community members are set to attend to discuss education within the district.

In a letter sent out to parents of the district on Aug. 31, FISD officials announced a new committee, titled “Friendswood ISD Focus,” which will invite 25 members within the community to discuss various aspects of education and learning through a handful of sessions throughout the school year.

The meetings will be held from 8 a.m.-noon on the following dates:
  • Sept. 26
  • Nov. 15
  • Feb. 15
  • April 2
Applications for the team were due on Sept. 8, with district officials choosing the final selectees through a lottery system, according to the letter.

Diving in deeper


The committee will see how the district and its teachers operate firsthand, with agendas consisting of visits to campuses and classrooms, according to the letter. Meetings will focus on specific areas of instruction, including:
  • Curriculum
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Technology integration
  • Special programs
