With the new school year approaching, a number of projects in Friendswood ISD that are tied to the 2020 bond are wrapping up.

Along with a new Cline Elementary School opening, several different upgrades across a number of campuses are close to being finished.

Westwood Elementary School

At Westwood Elementary, a new music room and fan coil units were planned to be completed in July, with district officials expecting to have access to the building starting in late July, according to district documents.

Some work on a switchgear and air handling units is ongoing and expected to be completed in November, documents show.


District officials budgeted about $3 million for the project, but it is anticipated to cost a little under $1.8 million, according to district documents.

Bales Intermediate School

Similar to Westwood, Bales Elementary will have a couple things wrapping up in July with more work expected throughout the early part of the new school year.

A new learning space should wrap up in late July, with further work ongoing until October, documents show.


The cost of the project was budgeted for $2.38 million but is expected to cost about $1.93 million, according to documents.

Windsong Intermediate School

A new playground, concrete pad and repurposed trees for the play area are expected to be ready in late July, according to district documents. The designing and building process for the project began in 2022.

In total, the construction costs are expected to come in at $5.9 million, which is on target for the budget, documents show.


“We are making good progress and anticipate everything being ready on time,” Superintendent Thad Roher said in his July update.
