Friendswood ISD has determined its instructional calendar for the 2023-24 school year with students set to begin the year Aug. 15.

The district drafted three calendars and, following feedback from staff and parents, chose Option C. This calendar has a slightly later start and a shortened fall holiday. District staff will return to work Aug. 7, and school will begin Aug. 15. The fall holiday will start with a parent/teacher conference or Preliminary SAT day followed by a professional learning/students holiday and an exchange day/student holiday.

Students will begin Christmas break on Dec. 22 and return to school Jan. 9, 2024. Additionally, a day in April will be designated for professional learning and a day of service. Around 32% of staff and 33% of parents preferred Option C.

The district chose Option C because it included a fall holiday for students while providing more time for bond project completion, according to agenda documents.
