At least 90% of elementary and junior high students in Friendswood ISD approached grade level in nearly all subjects tested in this year's State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.

STAAR results show the number of FISD students in grades 3-8 approaching grade level improved across all subjects from 2021. Friendswood High School STAAR results demonstrated similar success.


Reading scores across all grade levels showed improvement from 2021, with 90% or more of FISD students approaching grade level. FISD reading scores were an average of 16% higher across all grade levels than the statewide results.


FISD students showed similar improvement in mathematics, with 90% or more approaching grade level. FISD mathematics scores averaged 23% higher across grade levels than statewide results.


As eighth grade students prepare to enter high school, STAAR scores indicate similar levels of comprehension, with 90% or more approaching grade level in reading, mathematics and science. However, consistent with statewide results, social studies scores still remain lower than other subjects at 75% approaching grade level.


The assessment tests students on mathematics, reading, science and social studies against state curriculum standards, according to the STAAR’s website. All Texas public school students in grades 3-12 take the STAAR tests. Students in grades 3-8 were tested May 10-18.
