Alvin ISD’s board of trustees approved new names for four AISD facilities, inspired by longtime and influential faculty members.

The facilities with new names include High School #4, now Iowa Colony High School; Junior High #8, now Jackie Doucet Caffey Junior High School; the Alvin High School Performing Arts Center, now the Marguerite Edward Performing Arts Center; and Alvin High School Natatorium, now the Lenny Garcia Natatorium.

Caffey is an AISD alumna and taught in AISD schools for 42 years, teaching at Alvin and Harby Junior High. Garcia coached swimming, diving and water polo at Alvin High School for 30 years.

The names were recommended to the board by the Alvin ISD Facility Naming Committee, which met over the course of two months to determine their recommendations, and were approved at the board meeting on Feb. 11.
