United Imaging, a medical imaging technology company, is expanding into a 216,000-square-foot facility in Pearland’s Lower Kirby District, amid the city’s efforts to attract more life sciences companies.

As part of the development, officials said they anticipate the company to bring around 185 jobs to the city.

What you need to know

The facility, located at 11550 N. Spectrum Blvd., Pearland, will house the company’s manufacturing, research and development, and warehousing operations, and bring the company closer to Texas Medical Center, according to an April 2 news release from the Pearland Economic Development Corporation, or PEDC.

Pearland’s 77584 zip code is home to more Texas Medical Center workers than any other in the Houston region, according to the PEDC’s website.

United Imaging will lease the building, which was constructed by Brennan Investment Group. The business will open in phases over the next two years and eventually employ up to 185 people. Initial operations are expected to begin in late 2025, according to the release.

United Imaging is headquartered in China and manufactures medical imaging equipment such as MRI machines, CT scanners and digital radiography systems. United Imaging previously opened its North American headquarters in Houston in 2020, according to their website.

What they’re saying

Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole said in the release the move aligns with the city’s push to attract more life sciences businesses.

“Their presence in the Lower Kirby District strengthens our city’s growing life sciences sector and supports our mission to attract high-quality jobs and investment to the community,” Cole said in the release.

Jeffrey M. Bundy, Ph.D., CEO of United Imaging Healthcare North America, said in the release that the expansion will help the company keep up with rising demand.

“Houston has been a special home for us since 2019, where we welcome healthcare providers to our facilities from all over the U.S. and the world,” Bundy said. “The expansion of our local production is important for us to continue to stay ahead of continuously growing customer demand for our technology.”
