After Pearland City Council chose not to take action at its April 24 meeting, the search for the city's next city manager will continue.

At a previous March 27 meeting, council anticipated it would narrow the pool of 42 candidates down to an unspecified number of finalists at the April 24 meeting.

City staff confirmed the list of the total candidates who applied for the position had been narrowed to a semifinalist list of eight candidates, three of whom withdrew their applications.

The previous City Manager Clay Pearson was fired in November following a discovery of a county tax worksheet error that left the city with a $10.3 million deficit and incorrect tax rates.

Deputy City Manager Trent Epperson will continue to serve as the interim city manager during the search. Previously, Epperson confirmed he applied for the role.
