The fire department appointed Jacob Johnson as the new assistant chief, the city of Pearland announced in an Aug. 11 news release.
“After conducting a nationwide search, it became evident that the passion, dedication and empathetic leader we sought was not external but right here within our own organization,” Pearland Fire Chief Jack Taylor said in the release. “Chief Johnson completes the magnificent leadership team we now have in place.”
Johnson started as a junior volunteer member in 2000, according to the release. He has spent the last 15 years with the fire department, and he was one of the original 18 firefighters hired by the fire department. He has an associate degree in fire science and is certified in various fields, including as a master firefighter, master inspector and fire executive.
“I hope to bring a sense of pride, tradition and passion as assistant fire chief and aspire to give every PFD member an opportunity to fall in love with the job, perform to the expectations of our residents, and leave a legacy for others to admire and follow," Johnson said.
