The 2019 local election season is underway as the candidate filing period began Jan. 16 for city council positions in Pearland and Friendswood.

In Friendswood, Council Position 4 and Position 6 are up for election. As of the end of the first day of filing, Position 4 incumbent Robert Griffon had filed for re-election. Brothers Produce CEO Brent Erenwert had filed for Position 6, currently held by Carl Gustafson, who announced his intent to run again at the Jan. 14 meeting. Erenwert ran against Griffon for Position 4 in 2018.

In Pearland, three positions are on the ballot. As of the first day of filing, Derrell Isenberg has filed for Position 1, currently held by Tony Carbone. Trent Perez has filed for re-election for Position 6, and no candidates have filed for Position 5, currently held by J. David Little.

The filing deadline for both cities is 5 p.m. Feb. 15. Elections will be held May 4.
