While a full list of accepted materials has not yet been finalized, lithium batteries will not be accepted, but some electronics, including computers and monitors, will be eligible for disposal, Praslicka said at the meeting.

H-GAC will oversee the procurement and disposal of collected materials, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will provide oversight to ensure hazardous waste is handled in accordance with state regulations, according to city documents.

City officials said the effort aims to educate residents and reduce improper disposal of hazardous materials, which can lead to contamination and cause safety risks, according to the TCEQ website.

Following approval, city officials will begin planning for the event, including holding preliminary coordination meetings to determine which materials to accept, Praslicka said.
