On May 2, Pearland voters will face a robust ballot that includes mayoral and City Council elections, as well as two policy propositions.

Pearland City Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 9 meeting to order a general election and special elections for those three offices and the two propositions, which include whether to adopt civil service law for the fire department and amendments to nine different sections of the city’s charter.
Council members Mona Chavarria and Rushi Patel, who currently hold office, are running for City Council positions 3 and 7, respectively, unopposed as of Feb. 11, according to the city’s website.
The city is calling a special election to fill City Council position 2, which is currently held by Tony Carbone, who announced he will run for mayor on Jan. 9, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Tommy Echols is running unopposed for City Council position 2, according to the city’s website.
Candidates for the City Council positions must file their applications by 5 p.m. Feb. 13, according to the city’s website.
Also of note
Voters will also face a decision on whether to adopt the Fire Fighters’ Civil Service Law for the Pearland Fire Department, which would shift hiring and disciplinary regulations to be governed by Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code, according to city documents.
Additionally, voters will cast ballots on an item that would replace requirements for the city to publish legal notices and budgets in a newspaper with a requirement to publish “in accordance with state law,” which includes the city’s website.

Early voting will run from April 20 to April 28 and the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.
