Pearland City Council member Tony Carbone on Jan. 9 formally announced his bid for Pearland mayor in the upcoming May 2 election.
About the candidate
Carbone, a sixth-generation Pearland native, was elected to City Council in 2019 and has served three times as mayor pro tem, a role that acts as mayor when the mayor is absent, according to the city’s website.
Carbone said, if elected, he would prioritize public safety and maintaining the city’s aging infrastructure, including roads and sidewalks as well as water and drainage systems.

“Pearland is a destination city with national recognition, but we are aging, and there are areas that need attention,” Carbone said in a news release. “Pearland needs steady leadership that puts residents first.”

Following Carbone’s announcement, Brazoria County Constable Buck Stevens, who was also running for mayor, announced he would withdraw his candidacy and endorsed Carbone.
“Tony is someone I respect for his commitment to this city and his willingness to serve,” Stevens said.
