Next year, the city of Pearland could change the way it notifies citizens about city updates and potentially allow for an increase in the mayor and City Council members' pay thanks to proposed amendments voters will consider in May.

What happened

Pearland City Council listened to a public hearing to discuss two new amendments to the city charter, which was last updated in 2020, according to the city’s website.

The two amendments suggested by the 2025 Charter Review Commission involve increasing the pay rate or adding a cost-of-living adjustment for the mayor and council members, and to allow notices currently requiring newspaper publication to be potentially published by other means, such as on the city’s website, according to agenda documents.

Looking ahead

In February, City Council will consider a resolution calling for a special election to take place in May for the proposed charter amendments.
