Pearland ISD is projecting a nearly $2.5 million surplus for its fiscal year 2026-27 budget, following a budget workshop presented at the board of trustees May 12 meeting.
What you need to know
The district projects around $231 million in revenue and nearly $229 million in expenses for FY 2026-27, according to budget documents.
Employee payroll remains the district’s largest expense at $191.02 million, accounting for about 83% of projected revenue, according to budget documents.
What residents should know
The projected tax rate is unchanged from FY 2025-26 at $1.135 per $100 home valuation.
This rate includes $0.7869 for maintenance and operations, or M&O, which funds daily operations, and $0.3481 for interest and sinking, or I&S, which pays bond debt.
Also of note
PISD Superintendent Larry Berger, who presented the update, said the district is projecting a decline in enrollment, which could affect the budget since student enrollment and average daily attendance, or ADA, are factors in state funding.
For the 2026-27 school year, the district is projecting enrollment of nearly 20,300 students with a projected 95% ADA rate. Current enrollment is around 20,600 students with an ADA rate of 95.8%.
The decline reflects a broader regional trend, with several Greater Houston-area districts also declining in enrollment, as previously reported by Community Impact.
What’s next
The board of trustees is scheduled to consider adopting the FY 2026-27 budget at its June 9 meeting, according to budget documents.
