Sweet June’s Bake Shoppe closed its storefront location in Pearland, according to a June 12 social media post from the business.
The bakery, which opened its brick and mortar shop in February, will continue operating as a home-based cottage bakery offering curbside pickup and delivery services.
What you need to know
Sweet June’s leased space with a shared commercial kitchen and believed the necessary permits were already in place, according to the post. However, subsequent inspections identified unresolved property- and building-related compliance issues that predated their tenancy.
The bakery said it passed its own inspections, but was ultimately informed that its permits would not move forward until the property issues were resolved, leading to the closure of its storefront.
“This is not the outcome we hoped for, and we certainly feel disappointed,” bakery officials said in the post. “We are choosing to view this not as the end of our story, but as the beginning of a new chapter.”
What’s next?
The bakery will continue serving customers through its home bakery, offering custom cakes and cookies for celebrations such as birthdays and graduations, as well as brownies, cupcakes and other baked goods.
