Flash flooding struck the Greater Houston area overnight, shutting down parts of major freeways, blockading roads and wreaking havoc on commuters as they attempt to get to work. Four to six inches of rain fell overnight between 1:30 and 7:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service, which then caused the flash floods. High water locations include the I-10 in both directions in the Loop, 610 West Loop in both directions from the Westpark tollway to Braeswood Boulevard, the Gulf Freeway inbound at 610, the Grand Parkway northbound at the Westpark tollway, the Beltway 8 South eastbound at South Main and West Airport Boulevard, and Hwy. 288 northbound near the 610, according to Houston Transtar.
