Work began Oct. 3 on Segment 1 of the Gosling Road widening project, which extends the roadway between Spring Stuebner and West Mossy Oaks roads. The project will widen Gosling Road from two-lanes to five-lanes between Spring Stuebner Road and the Grand Parkway, and to four lanes with a 14-foot-wide median between the Grand Parkway and West Mossy Oaks Road. The $8 million dollar project will take about a year to complete, according to a press release distributed by Harris County Precinct 4 on Oct. 17. Allgood Construction was awarded the project in August. “We are just so excited," said Jack Cagle, Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner. "Visually, you’re going to see the improvement, but your cars won’t be battered as much as they go up and down [the road], and for the individuals that are coming in and out of those neighborhoods, they’re going to find it’s so much nicer to be driving down a four-lane boulevard than what they have now." Gosling Road Segment 2—from West Mossy Oaks to West Rayford roads—and Segment 3— from West Rayford Road to Creekside Forest Drive—are in the design phase. These two segments are estimated to go out for bid by the second quarter of 2017. Segment 2 is estimated to take 22 months while Segment 3 is estimated to take 12 months to complete. The Gosling Road widening project is a taste of what is to come with the new Gosling Road bridge, Cagle said. He said the funding and agreements with Texas Department of Transportation are mostly in place for the $7 million dollar bridge that will span over Spring Creek in Harris and Montgomery counties. It is designed by The Woodlands Road Utility District. “We’re just waiting on Montgomery County to say ‘Yes,’" he said. “We’re all ready, and we’re just waiting for Montgomery County.”
