Katy ISD officials evacuated Seven Lakes High School students and personnel this morning after a "potential explosive device" was reported to be in the building. Around midday students were transported to the nearby junior high school and were formally dismissed at 1:30 p.m. to be picked up by parents or be transported home by bus.

The incident began around 10 a.m. when Katy ISD police officers received reports of a "perceived threat," according to statements released by Katy ISD officials.

Administrators immediately evacuated students from the building.

By 11 a.m. authorities had identified what they believed could be an explosive device and contacted the Harris County Sheriff's Office bomb squad. Members of the FBI bomb squad also arrived on scene.

Students who drove to school and had their car keys in their possession were permitted to leave after their car was cleared by authorities. Students who did not have their keys, or who had bikes parked near the building, were not allowed to retrieve them.

School officials cancelled all after school activities and are asked that parents pick up their students at Seven Lakes Junior High.

At 3 p.m. authorities were still searching the building.

According to school officials, classes are expected to resume Tuesday.
