The Texas Department of Transportation is working to repair and reconstruct the Hwy. 59 northbound main lane bridge at the Beltway 8 interchange and is expected to finish construction by Dec. 11.

The $1.6 million project has entered the final phase of construction, which includes the reconstruction of the outside main lane and shoulder. The first phase reconstructed the inside main lane and was completed Oct. 31.

As a result of the second phase of construction, the outside main lane on Hwy. 59 at Beltway 8 will be closed to traffic continuously until work is completed. TxDOT still needs to pour two layers of concrete over the bridge and install a new barrier, which could be completed ahead of schedule, said Deidrea Samuels, public information officer with TxDOT.

"There are no [other] immediate closures scheduled for the area, but there is an overlay project scheduled for this spring on the Hwy. 59 main lanes from Beltway 8 to Loop 610," she said.
