Tomball and Magnolia are celebrating the 30th anniversary of National Night Out tonight, an event to bring the community and law enforcement together.

A free event will be held in Tomball from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Depot, at 201 S. Elm, with the Tomball Police and Fire Departments.

The Magnolia Police Department is sponsoring an event at Unity Park, 19410 Unity Park Drive, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The department is encouraging all residents to join them at the park.

"The Magnolia Police Department is grateful that we have a community that we know will stand together," Magnolia Police Department Officer James Senegal said. "It is our best effort to provide a comfortable and safe environment for our residents as we strive to live up to our motto 'In Partnership With Our Community'."

National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and Target. The event began in 1984 as a way to heighten awareness of local anti-crime efforts and to promote the partnership with law enforcement and the community.
