Social media website today make communication easier and more accessible perhaps than ever before, but they can also lead to problems for users who post inappropriate content. The upcoming Come Together Tour event hopes to educate teenagers on the dangers of social media and encourage them to use those sites in a positive way.

The Come Together Tour event will be 6:30—8:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Fellowship of The Woodlands Church at 1 Fellowship Drive in The Woodlands. Travis Kilway, public relations representative for the nonprofit organization, said the event will feature speakers such as stress relief expert Lauren Miller, motivational speaker Les Brown, author Edie Hand and Mike Lavender, MC for the LA Galaxy.

"They're mainly going to focus on using social media for a positive instead of a negative," Kilway said.

The Come Together Tour will also honor the J.J. Watt Foundation with the Community Achievement Award for their service the community. The event will feature live music and prizes. Admission is $5, and attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the Montgomery County Food Bank.

Kilway said the nonprofit organization was recently founded by Executive Director K.C. Tuckness, a resident of The Woodlands. According to the Come Together Tour website, the group's mission is to "inspire teens to use social media in a positive and responsible way and get involved in their communities by mentoring them to build social self-esteem, awareness and leadership."

"She's super passionate about it, and she's trying to make it a big thing," Kilway said.
