The details
Council members approved the measure during the Dec. 15 meeting.
Roman Forest City Engineer Greg Phipps said officials will advertise the project for two consecutive weeks before opening the project to bid in January.
According to previous reporting, the roughly $350,000 project will consist of adding roughly 2,000 square feet of additional space to the city’s police department. Once completed, officials said around half of the existing police department will be converted into additional space for City Hall.
A closer look
While the project’s design is complete, Phipps noted some aspects may be subject to change as work begins.
“There are going to be items in this plan set that are going to be revised as we go along,” Phipps said. “We’ll issue addendums—especially with building—things will be caught. There will be questions that contractors will ask that we will address inside the addendums.”
Phipps said the city will work with the contractor eventually selected for the project to iron out any lingering questions with the design prior to the start of construction.
“There are a lot of different things that we'll handle after this project is bid, but we will make sure that we have a complete set of plans so that we eliminate, or at least minimize, change during construction,” Phipps said.
What’s next
While a start date for construction has not yet been determined, Phipps said officials are aiming to complete the project by the end of 2026.
