League City residents raise concerns about Marina del Sol

Several residents raised public safety concerns about the waterfront Marina del Sol development at the Nov. 18 League City City Council meeting, prompting city officials to commit to seeking solutions at a future December meeting.

League City resident BJ Buchanan, who lives adjacent to the marina, said he observed suspicious activity and unlicensed boats docking in the marina.

“We would see boats coming in at night, at two in the morning, docking on boats ... and cars coming into the parking lot at all hours of the night,” he said.

Permit denied to build McDonald's on Dixie Farm Road in Pearland


Following substantial community pushback, Pearland City Council voted unanimously to deny a conditional use permit to build a McDonald’s on Dixie Farm Road at its Nov. 17 meeting.

The applicant sought to build a McDonald's at 3203 Dixie Farm Road, Pearland, near the Pine Hollow neighborhood, on a parcel of land zoned as a neighborhood services district.

Conroe City Council approves contract for traffic signal reconstruction at I-45, South Loop 336

Conroe City Council voted Nov. 13 to award a contract to Third Coast Services LLC for the reconstruction of a damaged traffic signal at the intersection of I-45’s southbound frontage road and South Loop 336, according to city documents.

The signal was heavily damaged in a traffic accident earlier this year, according to the council agenda. Engineering and Public Works staff designed a full rebuild, and the city issued a competitive sealed bid for the project.


Third Coast Services submitted the lowest responsible bid at $79,583, earning the highest overall evaluation score among three bidders. The engineer’s estimate for the work was $110,000.

New president chosen to lead New Caney ISD board of trustees

New Caney ISD’s board of trustees has a new president after a newly elected trustee joined the board Nov. 17, prompting a leadership reshuffle.


Elizabeth Harrell—who previously served as board vice president—was unanimously approved as the new board president during trustees’ Nov. 17 meeting. Before Harrell was selected, former board president Creg Mixon said he voluntarily stepped down as board leader.

On Nov. 17, David Hagler was sworn in as NCISD’s newest trustee after he was elected by voters during the Nov. 4 election.

Sugar Land’s Walmart Neighborhood Market to remain open during renovations


The Walmart Neighborhood Market store in Sugar Land is set to undergo after-hours renovations to streamline the shopping experience while remaining fully open to customers, store officials said.

According to a store representative, Walmart’s remodel will incorporate elements of the company’s “store of the future” concept, where shoppers can experience several improvements including:
  • Expansion of grocery pickup and delivery
  • Updated pharmacy
  • New Grab & Go section
  • Expanded deli and produce
  • New “community-focused” food and merchandise offerings
