German-based grocer ALDI will open a location in November within the Shops at Kingsgate, which was formerly known as Kingwood Shopping Center, said Schreer Partnership Interests Chairman Andrew Schreer.

SPI owns and develops the Shops at Kingsgate, he said.

"To the residents of the half of Kingwood going toward Hwy. 59, we feel that that area has underserved as far as a grocery store, having only Randalls," Schreer said. "Usually the people that live in the front of Kingwood don't shop at the back of Kingwood."

The discount grocery store is under construction in a building that will feature Dollar Tree when it opens this winter.

ALDI offers its own exclusive brands of meat, produce, bakery items, canned goods, paper products, and other items as well as some national brands. The location on Kingwood Drive will be the grocer’s first store in Kingwood.

The shopping center will also feature Medifast and The Spice Bowl, which are under construction now. Both will open this summer, Schreer said.
