City of Humble officials celebrated the opening of the city’s roughly $6.1 million replacement of Humble Fire Station No. 2 during a Jan. 30 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The details

The replacement for Fire Station No. 2 was first approved by Humble City Council in May 2021.

Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk touted the new station during the event, noting it's located in the south end of the city to more evenly split emergency responses between each of the city’s fire stations.

“This station allows our firefighters and paramedics to meet the challenges of a rapidly expanding population with greater efficiency while also further reducing mutual aid dependency,” Funderburk said.

Officials noted the new fire station is the first station built in Humble since 1990. The roughly 12,000-square-foot facility is located about a mile from the Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex.

Humble Fire Department Chief David Langenberg said the previous Humble Fire Station No. 2, which was located on Wilson Road, posed several challenges for the department due to its aging infrastructure.

“We took an aging, outdated and drastically undersized fire station, and relocated it to a space that will allow us to serve the citizens of humble more effectively and efficiently,” Langenberg said.

Langenberg noted the new fire station will house five to six firefighters and medic per day, and will house one ambulance and one fire engine.

Officials said the new fire station was originally projected to cost $4.5 million when it was designed in 2018, noting supply chain issues and inflation have caused the new station’s cost to rise.
