The Lake Houston area’s population grew by roughly 9.2% over five years, rising from 282,423 residents in 2018 to 308,489 in 2023, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The overview

On Dec. 12, the U.S. Census Bureau released new five-year data for 2023 as part of its American Community Survey.

The new data represents a five-year estimate of the population across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to the census website. This data compares with the 2018 survey results, which studied the country from 2014 to 2018.

The following ZIP codes make up Community Impact's Lake Houston coverage area:
  • 77044, which contains the southern end of Atascocita
  • 77338, which contains most of Humble
  • 77339, which contains the western portion of Kingwood
  • 77345, which contains the eastern portion of Kingwood
  • 77346, which contains most of Atascocita
  • 77396, which include the southern portion of Humble
A closer look


Each of the six Lake Houston-area ZIP codes saw population growth from 2018 to 2023 except for 77345, which saw its population decrease from 28,804 residents to 27,574, census data shows. The 77044 ZIP code saw the largest growth in population, rising from 45,885 residents in 2018 to 55,746 in 2023.

The following represents the percentage changes of populations from 2018 to 2023 for each ZIP code:
  • 77044: up 21.5%
  • 77338: up 10.6%
  • 77339: up 5.2%
  • 77345: down 4.3%
  • 77346: up 14.6%
  • 77396: up 1.9%
Also of note

Additionally, each of the six Lake Houston-area ZIP codes saw increases to the median age of residents from 2018 to 2023, census data shows. The 77044 ZIP code had the largest change with a median age of 30.6 years in 2018 and 33 years in 2023, data shows.
