The city of Humble will be distributing 2,700 surgical masks it received from Harris County on April 30, according to an email from Humble City Manager Jason Stuebe.

"We are grateful for our continued partnership with Harris County, especially Harris County Homeland Security and Emergency Management for helping make this happen," Stuebe said.

The mask distribution comes after Gov. Greg Abbott announced April 27 that while entities cannot issue fines or penalties for not wearing face masks, he strongly recommends residents do wear masks as the state begins to reopen. Abbott also announced plans to allow some businesses to reopen May 1, Community Impact Newspaper reported.

"We strongly recommend that everyone wear a mask," Abbott said. "However, it's not a mandate, and we made clear that no jurisdiction can impose any type of penalty or fine."

The drive-thru site will be open 9 a.m.-2 p.m.—or until masks are gone—at the Humble Civic Center, located at 8233 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble. Each vehicle will get four to five masks in one bag, and the masks are available on a first-come, first-served basis, according to Stuebe.
