Hidden Figures

Lone Star College-Kingwood is hosting a free screening of the 2016 film “Hidden Figures” as part of the college’s Black History Month programming. Based on real events, the film tells the story of a group of Black female mathematicians who worked at NASA in the 1960s when the space agency launched its first astronaut into orbit.Kingwood Roadshow

Hosted by Premiere GSC, the event will offer attendees free expert appraisals of precious metals, coins, collectibles, jewelry and antiques.Gumbo cookoff

Visit DECA Beer Company in Porter for the brewery’s Second Annual Gumbo Cook-Off. For competitors, setup begins at 7 a.m., and all gumbo must be cooked on-site. Organizers noted gumbo must be prepared using a propane or charcoal grill. No open fires will be allowed. Tasting begins at noon.

Kingwood Mardi Gras Festival and Parade


Visit Town Center Park in Kingwood for a Mardi Gras celebration. The free event will feature a parade, live music from Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, food trucks, and craft vendors. The festival will begin at 11 a.m., with the parade following at 2 p.m.
