Humble City Council will be cancelling the May 3 election after no candidates filed to challenge the incumbent mayor and two city council members, City Secretary Maria Jackson confirmed via email Feb. 19.

Up for election

Mayor Norman Funderburk and City Council members Charles “Andy” Curry and Mike Marshall, who serve Places 1 and 2, respectively, filed for reelection on Jan. 15, according to the Humble city election website. Feb. 14 was the deadline for candidates to file for a place on the ballot, and Feb. 18 was the deadline for write-in candidates, according to the Texas Secretary of State Office’s website.

After calling the May 3 election on Feb. 13, City Council will officially cancel the election at the next regular council meeting on Feb. 27, Jackson said.

Policy breakdown

Humble City Council positions are two-year terms and have no term limit, according to the city’s website. The positions are at-large spots—meaning the council member does not represent a specific portion of the city, according to local government code.
