The Humble ISD board of trustees will retain two of its members and welcome one newcomer following the May 6 election.

Incumbents Robert Scarfo and Marques A. Holmes as well as challenger Michael Grabowski were the top vote-getters for HISD trustee positions 2, 6 and 7, respectively, according to the Harris County Elections Administrators Office.

There will be no runoff elections as the district uses a plurality voting system, an HISD spokesperson confirmed May 7.

Holmes—who was sworn in as a trustee in December 2021—works as a technology consultant and also serves as an HISD Education Foundation trustee.

"The community spoke that they wanted me to represent this entire district, so I am extremely excited," Holmes said. "I was appointed last time, and so ... when you have a community behind you, that means everything."

Grabowski—a commercial airline pilot—has a professional background in mechanical engineering and business instruction. He is also the father of an HISD middle school student and the husband of an HISD elementary school teacher.

"I'm glad that the community trusts me," Grabowski said. "That's why you're called a trustee, and I won't let them down. I just feel so honored that the community has selected me to be their spokesman for the children, for the teachers and for the school system in general."

Scarfo has served as an HISD trustee since May 2019, according to HISD's website. He works in finance.

"It is important that we work together to support our students and staff, so that our students have the opportunities available to them to be successful and productive citizens, which strengthens the community in which we live," Scarfo said in a May 8 email.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
