The business came about as an expansion to their olive oil business Lakonia Imports, which originated in their Greek Village, Aghios Nikolaos, in 2018.
Staying local
Peter Marules said the olive oil business, founded by him and his cousin Kyriakos Maroulakos, led to a local demand for Greek products.
“We decided to get a winery license because the company was going very well. So we did get our winery license and created JMP wines to kind of be a sister company and welcome imports,” Peter Marules said.
Lakonia Imports, also located in Humble, offers olive oil made with olives from Lakonia, Greece, and other olive products through its online store.
The framework
JMP Wines offers wine imported from the international wine scene, including Greece, Spain, Argentina and beyond.
“What we enjoy doing most is sharing new things that our customers have never heard of, or tried,” Peter Marules said.
Focusing on small boutique wines from around the world, JMP Wines offers customers the opportunity to try wines from different regions around the world.
“We go out to foreign countries, and we'll find grapes like Assyrtiko white grapes and bring those to our customers for them to experience and try those things they’ll never find unless they go to Greece,” Peter Marules said.
Peter Marules said JMP Wines also offers its signature cabernet wine and plans to release another signature JMP white wine early this year.
JMP Wines supports its community by hosting wine tasting events paired with food from local restaurants, Peter Marules said.
In addition, each tasting event features a brief education and tastings of the owners' families' international award-winning extra virgin olive oils, Greek County Olives and line of balsamic vinegars from the sister company, Lakonia Imports.
Although JMP Wines offers its services by appointment only, Peter Marules said anyone is welcome to book a wine tasting, event or casual hangout through the website.
