Humble ISD officials are hosting a ceremony to celebrate the dedication of the Kim Enocksen Tennis Complex and the Kevin McElroy Courts at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at Kingwood High School, 2701 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood.
The details
The dedication ceremony comes after trustees approved the renaming of the tennis complex and courts in February.
Enocksen, who was hired to serve as the coach of Kingwood High School’s tennis program in 1994, recently came out of retirement to head the program again after McElroy—who had served as head coach since 2021—died in early January.
Career history
During Enocksen’s first stint as head coach, she led the program to 16 district championships in team tennis and to the regional qualifying round each of those seasons, according to agenda documents.
In 2001, Enocksen was named Texas Tennis 5A Coach of the Year. In 2010, the Kim Enocksen Integrity Award was established by the Texas Tennis Coaches Association, agenda documents state. The award is given annually to a tennis coach who displays qualities of honesty, strong moral principles and high ethical standards in the game and in life.
In 2014, Enocksen became the first tennis coach in HISD history to be inducted into the Texas Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame.
McElroy first joined the Kingwood High School tennis program as an assistant coach in 1998 before eventually taking over as head coach of the program in 2013, district officials said. He went on to briefly serve as the head coach at Deer Park High School before returning to lead the Kingwood program in 2021. He continued as the head coach of KHS’s tennis program until his death on Jan. 2.
McElroy earned several awards during his time with HISD, including the Kim Enocksen Integrity Award in 2011, 6A State Coach of the Year in 2017, the Character Award in 2023 and Regional Coach of the Year in 2025.
