CFISD approves policy revisions, K-5 instructional materials

Cy-Fair ISD held a regular board meeting on Oct. 19, approving policy revisions, including those on acquiring library materials as well as announcing upcoming events for the school year. 

The meeting highlighted National Principals Month, and Superintendent Doug Killian took the time to remind the community about early voting, what is on the ballot for the district and where that information can be found. 

The details

The board unanimously approved the following consent items:

• Meeting minutes from the Sept. 14 regular board meeting

• Additions and revisions made to CFISD's Academic Achievement Class Ranking policies

• Acquisition of library materials that have been donated to or obtained by the libraries in the district

Non-consent items were next on the agenda, including:

• Authorization for the superintendent to approve the addendum to the agreement between Harris County and CFISD concerning a vocational training site for special education students, which was approved 6-0 with Trustee Kendra Camarena abstaining.

• Unanimous approval of the district’s instructional materials recommendation for K-5 language arts and reading.

"HMH Reading Version 2" and "HMH ¡Arriba la Lectura!" were recently approved by the Texas State Board of Education with the intention of encouraging and supporting Spanish-English academic biliteracy.

The board is set to meet Nov. 5 at the Mark Henry Administrative Building, 11440 Matzke Road, Cypress.
