Jennifer Hull was a stay-at-home mother before entering the workforce and eventually becoming a business owner.

She joined the home decor industry—something she was passionate about in her private life—by taking a job at Picket Fences, a popular store in The Woodlands. After about a year at Picket Fences, Hull purchased Atascocita-based Interior Design Warehouse in March 2014.

“I was in a new season,” Hull said. “I was trying to decide how [life] was going to look for me, and I always loved home decor.”

Hull took over as owner after the original owner, Karen Tedford, decided to pursue other interests. Hull had always admired the store and reached out to Tedford after learning the business was closing.

To maintain continuity and familiarity with the vendors and customers, Hull decided to keep the name Interior Design Warehouse. However, she said she eventually plans to change the store name to Boxwood Home and Gifts.

Throughout the store, customers can find lamps, chairs, tables and
a few other furniture pieces. Interior Design Warehouse suits the tastes
of decorators looking for a traditional, rustic and French style, she said.

“I’m big on home and hospitality,” Hull said. “I have had a lot of people walk in and say, ‘It feels like you’re walking into a home.’ When you come in here, we try to display it and actually give you ideas on how to use things that you find.”

The store also carries a combination of evergreen and seasonal home decor and offers a wide selection of gift items, artwork and floral arrangements.

Hull said most of her customers are repeat buyers who most often return for gifts and little knickknacks to freshen up the house. Many will return to purchase gifts for Mother’s Day, a busy period at Interior Design Warehouse.

Shoppers can purchase individual floral pieces or entire displays designed by professional interior designer Julie Kuney.

Kuney works with customers inside and outside the store.

“[Kuney] can go into people’s homes and do as much or as little as you want,” Hull said. “She can do everything. She can shop for you. She can pick paint, select countertops—she can do all that.”

In honor of her late daughter, Jamilyn Hull, the Interior Design Warehouse will carry fair-trade items benefiting talented craftsmen across the world, she said.

“I’m always learning about and looking for new products that offer something unique,” Hull said.
