Katy ISD announced Thursday it would begin minimizing shelter operations at Cinco Ranch High School, 3440 Cinco Ranch Blvd., Katy, in order to prepare for classes on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The district said it is partnering with the Fellowship at Cinco Ranch, 22765 Westheimer Parkway, Katy, to assist people still in need of shelter.

Tropical Storm Harvey moved on from the Greater Houston area Wednesday and made its way east to Louisiana. But recovery efforts are under way in the Katy area, where schools, businesses and churches are acting as shelters for displaced residents.
Here is a list of open shelters with availability as of 1:52 p.m. Aug. 30, although the public is encouraged to call ahead before arrival to check space, volunteering needs or desired donate items. Some shelters may be more responsive on social media than by phone:
