Unofficial final voting results are in, and incumbent Lance Redmon has won his re-election bid for Katy ISD board of trustees Position 2 with 4,463 votes, or 41.11% of total votes, according to voting data tabulated by Katy ISD. As of 10 p.m., the school district is reporting early, absentee and election day vote totals.
Bonnie Anderson followed closely with 4,093 votes, or 37.7% of total votes, while Patricia Haggard accumulated 2,300, or 21.19% of total votes. Of 221,853 registered voters, 11,182, or 5.04%, were counted in this election.
Redmon was originally elected to Katy ISD board of trustees Position 2 in May 2019, according to the district's website. When asked how he would approach students' learning loss from the COVID-19 pandemic in a Community Impact Newspaper questionnaire, Redmon offered tutoring, summer school and additional help at home as a start. He said maintaining teachers' focus on educating students and removing the "extra things" they have on their plates would also help get students back on track.
On election night, Redmon said in a phone call to Community Impact Newspaper that he was thankful for the community's support.
“I’m thankful for the community to come out and support me and the opportunity to serve for another three years,” he said.

Early voting results show incumbent Lance Redmon leads the Katy ISD board of trustees Position 2 race with 42.9% of the votes, according to early voting data provided by Katy ISD. As of 8:25 p.m. the school district is reporting early and absentee vote totals.
The challenger for the board seat, Bonnie Anderson, received 2,751 votes, or 36.5% of votes, while challenger Patricia Haggard received 1,550 votes, or 20.6% of votes. In sum, Redmon has received 3,231 votes of the total 7,532 absentee and early votes that have been cast of May 7 at 8:25 p.m.
The board of trustees acts as the school district’s policy-making body and is the official trustee of the people for all public education in Katy ISD. Each position in Katy ISD’s board of trustees serves three-year terms, and two of the seven positions on the board are up for election this year. Though the board is comprised of seven members, it only acts officially as one group, according to the KISD website.
The board elects a president, vice president and secretary among the positions to serve one-year terms. Currently Redmon serves as vice president of the board. The board also selects and employs the superintendent. The superintendent advises board members on all matters concerning school management, according to the KISD website.
