The city of Katy announced specific guidelines for the first phase in reopening the economy, following Gov. Greg Abbott's statewide plan announced April 27.

"It is great news from the governor that we can open businesses even with the restrictions," Mayor Bill Hastings said at the April 27 Katy City Council meeting. "I want to thank the community because without the community doing what they have done—being vigilant in their social distancing and not getting out more than they have to—ya'll are the reason we can start opening these businesses back up."

The guidelines for Phase 1 will go into effect May 1 and go through May 18.

In Katy, City Hall and other city buildings will remain closed to the public but will continue to fully operate, according to a press release.

Museums will allow visitors by appointment only, and tennis courts will reopen, per the release.

However, the City of Katy Dog Park, baseball fields and basketball courts will remain closed through Phase 1.

The city of Katy continues to recommend face masks.

"If you will continue [being vigilant in social distancing and not getting out more than you have to] during this Phase 1, we will be able to go into Phase 2 a lot smoother and a lot sooner," Hastings said.
