That wait ended Feb. 12, when Bill Fanning, the owner of the establishment, opened the doors at 5733 Second St. to residents and visitors in Katy.
Fanning said he wanted to market the bar as an “upscale date night” venue where couples could feel comfortable bringing their kids, which is why the enclosed back lawn has a box of toys and games.
Though no food is served on the inside, Fanning said he will cycle different food trucks through the back patio every week.
“When you go out on date night, you just want to do something different, [even with] restaurants,” Fanning said. “But people like this space, and they like listening to live music, and if I can keep a fresh mix of food coming in—it makes it more fun for people to come here.”
Katy Crossing Icehouse features live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Fanning said this location is ideal for attracting new customers, especially with the renovations pending in the historic downtown square.
“I have really seen an effort from the city to [bring] the square to [life], to bring more businesses down to the Old Katy Square,” Fanning said. “We are turning this little by little into a destination area.” 281-396-4294. www.katycrossingicehouse.com
